Congratulations on your pregnancy, it is such a precious time in a woman's life. You have decided that you would like the help of an experienced maternity nurse to guide you through the postnatal period. So you have already started researching and you are now preparing to interview potential maternity nurses.
The obvious questions to ask are the usual interview questions:
Why did you choose maternity nursing as a career?
How long have you been a maternity nurse?
Which aspects of the job do you like/ dislike and why?
What are your strengths and weaknesses?
Asking a little bit more about their own family, do they have children, pets ect is not only a good ice breaker but can give more insight into the personality of a maternity nurses and if she is a good fit for your family.
Also look in detail at the candidates placements, has she held any long term maternity nurse positions over 6 months. Has the potential maternity nurse had returning clients. Both these are a good sign that the maternity nurse is reliable and hard working and that other families are happy with the services that she provides.
